Sulfur hexafluoride is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula of SF6. It is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic and incombustible stable gas at normal temperature and pressure. Its molecular weight is 146.055, and its density is 6.0886kg/m3 at 20 ℃ and 0.1 MPa, which is about 5 times the air density. The molecular structure of sulfur hexafluoride is octahedral, with small bonding distance and high bonding energy, so its stability is very high. When the temperature is not more than 180 ℃, Its compatibility with electrical structural materials is similar to that of nitrogen.

    chemical property

It does not react with copper, silver, iron and aluminum in dry environment below 300 ℃. It has no effect on quartz below 500 ℃. It reacts with sodium metal at 250 ℃ and liquid ammonia at - 64 ℃. It will decompose when mixed with hydrogen sulfide. At 200 ℃, in the presence of specific metals such as steel and silicon steel, it can promote its slow decomposition.

Because the density of sulfur hexafluoride is almost five times that of air, the wavelength of mechanical waves emitted by people who inhale sulfur hexafluoride will become longer and sound more like men when speaking, while helium gas is on the contrary, the wavelength will become shorter after inhalation, and sound more like women when speaking.
